Alison Storey has a long-held love of music and performance: from a young age she was involved in dance and gymnastics, moving into amateur dramatics when she hit her teens. At university, she embraced the written and spoken word, gaining a degree in French, Spanish and Business Studies. The drama turned to song and, when not studying, she found herself a regular on the local karaoke circuit. When she finally entered the world of work, she took a series of roles in marketing at professional services firms. She indulged her passion for music by singing in her work band, and was privileged to perform twice at the legendary 100 Club on London’s Oxford Street. A step up from the Swansea club scene!
After the birth of her first child in 2011, Alison returned to work in the City, and swapped singing for volunteering, getting heavily involved with her local NCT Branch in Croydon. She valued the community support NCT offered and enjoyed meeting new parents and children as she supported the branch’s baby and toddler groups, and co-ordinated their local advertising. After 15 years in marketing, and following the birth of her second child in 2014, Alison was looking for a change in direction. So when she heard through her NCT connections that MAD Academy Croydon was up for sale, she jumped at the opportunity. It seemed the perfect way to combine her love of music and performance with her enthusiasm for working with families in the local community. As a mum of two under four Alison is used to the energy and enthusiasm of toddlers and can’t wait to bring her passion for music and dance to the little ones of Croydon.
Alison strongly believes that children should have fun whilst learning and is especially proud of MAD’s ethos of allowing children to learn in a fun, free spirited environment. Alison runs weekly classes in Selsdon and looks forward to welcoming you and your little ones to their classes. Visit Alison’s timetable to find a suitable class.
Ellena and I just LOVE Alison’s classes on a Friday. We always come away talking about the class and sing the songs in the car on the way home!! I always feel so inspired to try new activities at home. Ellena’s confidence has improved immensely since we’ve been coming and her colours and shape matching have also improved! Alison is amazing, her classes are always full of energy and inspiring fresh ideas, no class is ever the same. Alison always makes everyone feel welcome and valued . Thank you for another fantastic, fun and thoroughly enjoyable term!! “ Karen, mum to Ellena (aged 2)
Just wanted to say how much the children enjoyed the session this morning. The energy was fantastic and the theme well thought out and imaginative. A winner! Thanks again. Sarah, mum to Freya and Joshua
